![]() It is an ubuntu based distro, but developed by a computer manufacturer, so their business relies on the software being good. On the other hand, the 3090 brings a lot of performance and extra memory for not a lot of extra money. You could wait until June 27, when Blender 3,6 is released and make the decision then. Its full performance potential and support is still in the works. The AMD card is a bit of an unknown at the moment. A simple exterior shot, or a furniture render, produces the results akin to Scan Lands benchmark - RTX 3060 ahead. A heavy interior scene shows the same performance hierarchy as White Lands benchmark - 6800XT way ahead. Subsequently, I have tested both machines on projects I work on every day. I have tested both systems on the given benchmarks, the results match. ![]() You can check the benchmarks bellow, pay attention to White Lands and Scan Lands scenes.Īs it happens, I have two machines, one with 6800XT, the other with the RTX 3060. In these scenes, if HIP RT is successful, it could push the card way up the stack, and maybe even past the 3090. In others, the 6800XT running HIP nearly matches the RTX 3070 running Optix. In certain scenes a 6800XT trails behind the RTX 3060. This is somewhat reflected in benchmarks by Techgage. I have not noticed such drastic fall in performance on an AMD card. Nvidia tends to run very fast on lighter scenes, however it can bog down quite a bit when complexity is introduced. ![]() I have not tried running Linux with AMD myself (yet), but by reading articles on the internet, one can arrive at the conclusion it is not as easy to get going as it is with Nvidia.įrom my experience, the performance from these two brands vary quite a bit depending on the given project. ![]() Optix is roughly twice as performant as CUDA, so fingers crossed. Also, it is currently only a guess what sort of boost this tech would bring, 1.5x or 2x the current HIP performance? Impossible to say. If the code is good enough for the final release by the time version 3.6 arrives, remains to be seen. Currently, it may be targeted towards the 3.6 release, as they have a test build running. Nobody knows when that gets implemented as it was delayed a couple of times already. Blender devs are working on HIP RT, that should be something akin to Optix from Nvidia. Currently AMD runs on HIP, which is, more or less, an equivalent to CUDA. ![]()
